Lonely Planet: Travel Tips, Holiday Ideas, Backpacking and Vacation Inspiration – August 18, 2017 at 07:05AM

This weekend’s #lpinstatakeover is from bloggers and adventure travellers Jen, Dave and their rescued Australian Shepherd, Sora (@longhaultrekkers), who will be sharing photos from the two-year cycle tour they took across Europe and South America. ‘One day, Dave proposed the idea of quitting our jobs to cycle tour across #Europe with Sora. I said ‘no way.’ I thought he was crazy. And then I went into work and considered my life stuck behind a desk, indoors. It didn’t take long for me to come around and say ‘let’s do this.’ – @longhaultrekkers — Stay tuned this weekend for more from Jen, Dave and Sora! #lonelyplanet #travel

“What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupery ‘Just when you think there’s no possible way to find a single drop of water in this desert, a massive salt lake appears in the middle of nowhere like a mirage. This picture was taken in ‘Salar de Aguas Calientes’ which is at almost 4,000m above seal level. ‘When the sun sets in the desert, the Valley of the Moon (Valle de la Luna) is the place to be. Situated west of San Pedro de #Atacama, this lunar-like valley—where it gets its name—is one of the driest and most colourful places on earth, and it becomes even more striking as the light changes and the salty rocks carved by wind and water through the millennia are set aflame.’ – @diegojimenez #travel #lpinstatakeover #lonelyplanet #chile

‘The incredible landscape of Chile’s remote Atacama Desert is like no other place on earth, and what makes it even more different than anything I’ve seen before is that it’s constantly changing as you drive along its endless roads. From reddish rocky peaks covered in salt, to infinite orange plains to endless sand dunes, this desert transports you to an entirely different place every hour that passes behind the wheel.’ – @diegojimenez #lpinstatakeover #travel #lonelyplanet #chile

Diego has been travelling the world for the past few years while designing and building @LonelyPlanet’s mobile apps, and he’s part of the team behind our new Trips app (link in bio!) ‘My number one tip for the Atacama—apart from sunscreen, always—is to rent a car as soon as your plane lands. Desert sights are fairly far apart from each other, and driving a car will give you the freedom a guided tour can’t offer, like a quick stop in the middle of the road to snap a photo like this one!’ – @DiegoJimenez — If you like desert adventures as much as we do, stay tuned to our feed this weekend to see more stunning shots of one of the world’s most diverse, extreme and beautiful places on earth. #travel

‘Blue skies, a perfect white sandy beach and some of the clearest waters I’ve ever seen. I left Raja Ampat feeling like I’d discovered Indonesia’s secret paradise. While #Bali may be the holiday spot for the masses, this is somewhere that felt undeveloped, charming and raw. Despite life feeling slow and simple, every day brought challenges and adventures. As I left this view behind, I knew it was somewhere I’d return to one day. I prayed it would be as special the second time around as it was the first! Thanks for joining my #lpInstaTakeover this weekend. Come and join me on my next adventure!’ – @wanderlustchloe  And that’s all for this weekend’s #lpinstatakeover! Lonely Planet: Travel Tips, Holiday Ideas, Backpacking and Vacation Inspiration – August 05, 2017 at 11:44PM

‘One of my favourite experiences in Raja Ampat was my day on the tiny island of #Arborek. Kids greeted us with traditional dances and were keen to show us around. Approximately 200 people live there, and along with brightly coloured homes there was a school, church, a few homestays and basic stores. This sign was one of the first things I spotted, asking us to dress respectfully and not to fish. In this part of the world there’s a real passion for the environment, and respect for others. Shortly after arriving, we tucked into a tasty meal of fish and rice, served with coconuts cut straight from the trees.’ – @wanderlustchloe #lpInstaTakeover #BestInAsia

Lonely Planet: Travel Tips, Holiday Ideas, Backpacking and Vacation Inspiration – August 05, 2017 at 07:45AM

‘Raja Ampat has an intense natural beauty. Above the ground exotic birds call to each other, gigantic colourful butterflies flutter by and hermit crabs dance along the sand. Below sea level majestic lion fish prowl through the waters past tropical fish, purple puffer fish, turtles, dolphins and sharks. These waters are the most biodiverse in the world, and if you pop your head under for a moment you’ll be amazed at what you see.’ – @wanderlustchloe #lpInstaTakeover #BestInAsia

Lonely Planet: Travel Tips, Holiday Ideas, Backpacking and Vacation Inspiration – August 05, 2017 at 12:25AM

‘Several stunning islands make up Raja Ampat in #Indonesia, but #Piaynemo is one of the most famous views. I couldn’t wait to see it for myself! Only reachable by speedboat, the small collection of moss-covered rocks in bright turquoise waters look too perfect to be real. Once on dry land, it was a hot, sticky trek up to this viewpoint. The panoramic views were pure magic, but the heat was intense up there. Ten minutes after I took this photo, I couldn’t resist but cool off with a dip in the water!’ – @wanderlustchloe #lpInstaTakeover #BestInAsia

Here she is enjoying the relaxed pace of life and beautiful beaches. ‘People use the word paradise to describe a lot of beautiful places on the planet. For me, Raja Ampat really was paradise. Being tricky to get to, it was untouristy, calm and unspoiled. The people were welcoming, and while it was everyday life for them, I couldn’t believe how unbelievably special it felt. Stay tuned this weekend for more stunning views, beaches and a glimpse into the most biodiverse waters on the planet’ – @wanderlustchloe (Photo by @backpackermacca) #travel #lonelyplanet
